Every story has a beginning

The underlying idea here is that, every story has a beginning. I believe our story starts with my Great-grandparents. Although we have multiple grandparents, I am fortunate to have 2 different families who were born in Sicily. As Sicilians in America in the early 1900, they struggled during times when food and opportunities were scarce. Motivated by the love for their family; they embarked on a quest to find new opportunity. Although the odds ot success were against them they were determined to not go quietly into the night. I am certain, their parents taught them the values of hard work and determination. When they faced obstacles, they overcame them. That is why this project is dedicated to them.

This story evolves Just like many American families, bringing together multiple nationalities and cultures. I am fortunate to be the son of a long line of farmers. My surname, Aten, is Dutch in heritage (from the Netherlands). Adrian Aten, my 13 Great Grandfather came to American when it was only an idea and barely existed. He was also seeking a new way of life for his family just like my Sicilian Great Grandparents. Both families enjoyed the farming entrepreneurs. I believe their values shaped my grandparents, my parents, and ultimately it is the reason for who I am. The very first memory I have with my father is being on a farm; the smells, sounds, and iconIc scenes are cherished in my dreams. I am certain this connection with nature is something in today's society should be cherished and shared for future generations.
